West End Debut for Myles Grant in Tina Turner the Musical
- Published Date: October 3, 2018
This month we caught up with Jigsaw Watford student Myles Grant who has recently started his West End debut in Tina Turner the Musical, playing Young Craig. The musical, full of the legendary singer-songwriters hits has proven to be simply the best with audiences since it opened in early 2018. The show tells the story of singer Tina Turner, from her beginnings in Tennessee to becoming the queen of rock ‘n’ roll.
What Jigsaw School do you attended? What’s your favourite subject and why?
I have attended Jigsaw Performing Arts School, Watford. My favourite subject at Jigsaw has been dance because it gives me a chance to express myself in an endless number of ways. It has also allowed me to be imaginative and creative.
Congratulations for gaining the role of Young Craig in Tina Turner the Musical! What was it like auditioning for the role?
Auditioning for the Tina Turner Musical was quite overwhelming, seeing so many children there all going for the same auditioning role. Once the casting had started, I took a deep breath and gave it my best. While there I remembered my parents saying, treat your audition as if it is your last one and give it your very best. For preparation the casting supervisor asked me to pretend to be various characters and to make facial expressions which was fun. The audition lasted for quite a while and my mum was told by of my acceptance for the role a few days later. We were all thrilled and stayed up most of the night celebrating.
Did you enjoy the rehearsal process?
Rehearsals was amazing, I have had to learn my lines and pretend how to cry in my scene, so I practice in the mirror every day as well as with the main characters. The whole cast feels like a big giant family and everyone looks after each other including me.
Wow! That sounds like a wonderful experience! Have you done anything like this before? If so, can you share with us what you’ve done?
This has been my very first West End stage role however I have been in the Vitality TV commercial, so I really like this new challenge which is different.
Cool! Would you recommend your experience?
I would recommend this experience to all but most importantly I would say you must continue with your studies, so you have a plan “B” if it doesn’t work out. The best part about being on a West End stage is the excitement I get each night when I appear in front of the public. It’s also knowing that this is giving me a great platform for other great acting roles in the future.
Thank you, Myles, you have a wise head on your young shoulders. We wish you all the best for the rest of the run. Tina Turner is currently running at the Aldwych Theatre in London. Took book tickets please visit tinathemusical.com for more information.
