Drama, Singing and Dance in the Heart of Deptford Bridge

My Roots and Peckham Drama
Hannah: As a young girl growing up in Peckham, I always loved singing, dance and drama in London. After seeing me perform in my Year 6 Production my mum sent me off to the Centre for Young Musicians where I trained to sing and perform. At 16 I went to City and Islington College where I studied Music, Media and English.
Throughout my time at college I was involved in the yearly productions, notably ‘Grease’ and ‘Threepenny Opera’. I was able to expand my skillset within dance, singing and drama and had the absolute time of my life. Once I completed both college and CYM I went on to university and studied Music and Cultural Studies at Canterbury Christ Church.
For the next three years I built up my technical abilities within singing. I was in choirs, a cabaret show, I joined a band and I was involved in two musical productions. Working with amazing singers, dancers and actors it was the most amazing opportunity which I will never forget; it’s where I found my confidence.
Coming home into the wilderness of London I wanted to try for the big Musical Theatre schools to follow – what I thought was – my dream. I wanted to be a performer and stand on a stage every single night singing, dancing and acting.
The Benefits of Performing Arts For Children and Adults
A little while later, however, I was introduced to teaching within the performing arts. Coming from a family of teachers I have always understood the importance of having a broad education and I highly value its importance. I also understand what a wonderful tool the performing arts can be. It was so important to the people I grew up with, not only for building self-confidence but for instilling an ability to make the very best of us as people. It has been the most eye opening experience to teach singing and drama to children of all ages and to truly recognise and experience first- hand what it can do for people’s lives.
Drama, Singing and Dance in Deptford Bridge
I feel extremely privileged to be able to teach performing arts and work with young people. I am now incredibly excited to be able to run singing, dancing and acting classes in Deptford Bridge! To be able to bring this wonderful company to my neck of the woods and give the opportunity of a Saturday performing arts school to people growing up here is going to be amazing and I can’t wait!
