Why is dance so popular at Jigsaw Bushey?

Jigsaw Bushey manager, Kim, took to some of our students, aged 7 – 18, to ask them what they love most about dance classes at Jigsaw and why? Here are some of the things they said…

Dance is energising!

When we asked some of our students aged 7+ what they love about dance, they said “It makes me feel awake and so happy.” Dance is a great form of exercise and helps to make our bodies feel super energised and awake (a great way to start your day, which is what dance at Jigsaw Bushey offers our students every Sunday morning!)

Exercise also promotes happiness and joy which we can definitely see when we walk into our student’s dance classes and witness all of those smiles and happy faces.

Dance is FUN!

Some of our students told Kim that they LOVE dancing at Jigsaw because “It’s soooo fun!” At Jigsaw Bushey, we particularly love dancing to super high-energy and upbeat music that the kids often all know and love! We often find them singing along to the tunes as they dance their hearts outs, enjoying every second. Our teachers are all super encouraging and nurturing, enabling our students to grow in confidence and feel safe to try new and exciting things in dance. Our students also find it funny when our teachers make their feedback and corrections really fun, such as saying “no saggy chicken wings” when they see someone isn’t straightening their arms as much as they could be. By giving feedback in a way in which the kids enjoy, we find it helps our students learn faster and progress to the best of their abilities.

Teamwork!

Our eldest students told Kim how much they love a challenge in dance and that they enjoy working together as team to create a slick dance piece with creative formations and strong poses. Dance is all about working as a team, and in doing so our students form new friendships, building on their social and communication skills. Our students enjoy being challenged and they all celebrate each other’s successes and help each other to reach their individual and group goals.

At Jigsaw Performing Arts Bushey, our students aged 3 -18 also take part in singing and drama classes as well as dance. Stay tuned as Kim investigates what our students love about singing next!
