New Wimbledon Theatre – Jigsaw Arts Theatre Trip!

At the New Wimbledon Theatre, Jigsaw Sutton, Wimbledon, Mitcham & Morden had a great evening out to celebrate the end of the term!

Our schools got together to arrange a social night for the oldest students to go and see the new musical ‘101 Dalmatians’ at the New Wimbledon Theatre. The show is a reimagining of the classic story using song, dance and puppet to create a family fun show. Moments of classical musical theatre were mixed with farce – and almost moments of pantomime. The students all loved the show and the variety of styles and performance techniques gave the students plenty of inspiration to bring back to their weekend classes! 

We were lucky enough to go on the press night at the New Wimbledon Theatre, so the students got to experience a red carpet entrance which was lots of fun and pose for some photos outside. 

The real bonus for the production was that our Performing Arts Teacher Lottie was in the ensemble – performing as numerous roles, puppeteering and of course plenty of singing and dancing. We all loved seeing Lottie up on the big stage and being such a star. And the students loved getting to do a meet and greet with her after the show! Lottie has been teaching across all three branches over the past seven years whilst also working as a professional actress and puppeteer. It was brilliant for the students to see that their teachers don’t just teach, they are also professional performers! 

The trip was such a success we are already planning our next theatre trip. The New Wimbledon Theatre is so close to these three Jigsaw branches and has West End shows often starting a national tour there it’s a real asset for the schools to be able to see such wonderful shows locally! With ‘Hairspray’ and ‘&Juliet’ both coming up in the next few months there’s plenty of choice for our next trip!
