10 YEARS of Jigsaw – Spotlight on Alex!
- Published Date: June 5, 2024
In April 2024, Jigsaw Bexleyheath franchisee Alex celebrated 10 years working for Jigsaw. Celebrating this milestone was a chance to reflect on her own Jigsaw journey as well as look back on the last 10 years working for Jigsaw Performing Arts Schools.
When Alex decided to make a career change 10 years ago into teaching full time she didn’t realise one email would completely change her life…
“When I first met Nikki as a potential new teacher I was really inspired by her passion and dedication to Jigsaw and all of it’s students and soon realised that this was a theme running throughout the company and aligned with my own thoughts about teaching.” – Alex, Jigsaw Bexleyheath
Alex started her time at Jigsaw as a 3-4 and 5-6 year old class teacher, teaching singing, dance and drama to the youngest members of Jigsaw Performing Arts School Enfield. Soon after Alex went on to teach performing arts at Jigsaw Sevenoaks, Singing at Jigsaw Ilford, Finchley and Bexleyheath, Drama at Jigsaw Croydon and to manage Jigsaw Sevenoaks, Croydon and Bexleyheath before finally becoming a franchisee at Jigsaw Bexleyheath.
Here are some things that Alex has learned over the last 10 years…
What has been your favourite subject to teach?
I have always been a singing teacher first. I teach singing during the week and am a passionate singer myself but my favourite class to teach will always be the 3-4 year olds. I love giving children their first experience of Jigsaw and watching them grow in confidence as the term progresses.
What has been your best experience at Jigsaw?
I always love seeing progression. In our students, some of whom I taught in their first Jigsaw class when they would barely say a word and now they are taking on leading roles or are even now performing in the west end. In our teachers, seeing past students become assistants and then teachers and thrive in their new roles. Or in myself as I’ve gone from nervous teacher to confident business owner I enjoy seeing the progression everyone makes as they come through our doors whether they be student or teacher.
What are you looking forward to in the future?
Of course I am looking forward to continuing to grow my franchise school Jigsaw Bexleyheath and welcoming new students to the Jigsaw family. But more than that I am looking forward to starting another 10 years inspiring children to be themselves and find their place to belong here with us at Jigsaw as I so clearly did 10 years ago.
